Katt - Horse Gram curry cooked on slowfire with mild spices

Katt, a very well known curry in the Muslim community of the south, is one of the lip smacking gravies. But the same comes with a lot of pain and patience to cook. This recipe was passed on from my Grand mom to my mom and same to me. It may sound simple, but took me years to get to right consistency and taste. I would call it wine of gravies. The more it ages and cooks , the better it tastes. The curry is best complimented with Maida Rotis, and or rice. Also that it suffices the pallets of Non Vegges, Vegans and as well as eggetarians. Ghar Ka Khaana....maa ki yaad....

My mother always said, its not just the masalas that add the flavour to your food, but the time, effort, and love which give the distinct flavour. And so true to it..I learnt all this as the time passed. I never had a chance to watch my mom cook and learn, but all that I learnt was need of time..Ever since I started to live alone, I missed home food so much that I decided to cook...that was one of the bigeest milestones in my life. I see a lot of them who mis home and like to have the taste of what their mother's made. Nothing can match that. But hope these recipes will help you get started. The names used are very much of what were used by my grandmother and my mother and sure a very comman term in Muslim households of Bangalore...Hope you enjoy them.
